First Date Ideas

What is it about a first date that is so magical? The concept of going on a first date has been immortalised in countless films and televisions series and there is nothing more exciting than going on a first date, no matter how many times you have done it. You might be a teenager taking the first tentative steps into the shallow waters of the dating pool, or you could be a seasoned dater, diving into the deep end of the ocean. No matter what your perspective is, the first date is always an exciting time, and it never loses its magic.

Perhaps it is the idea that the future is unwritten, the potential is there to form a real and lasting partnership. Humans have a natural urge to find a mate and having a first date is the first step towards that goal. There is a sense of the unknown, the unexplored and the unchartered when you have a first date with someone you do not know very well. A date is not a casual coffee, it is not a quick bite on the way home from work, and although many relationships have started with a casual encounter, there is always that moment when the informality of a casual date turns into to formality of that momentous event…The First Date.

If you are getting ready to go on a first date and you have absolutely no idea of where to go or what to do to make it a special time, then you need to start thinking outside of the box for some creative ideas that will have your first date turn into your second and your third and after that…who knows where it may lead. The point of a first date is to find out if you share a common spark of attraction, are compatible and whether or not there is a possibility of lasting romance.

Location, location, location!

As with real estate and several other natural phenomenons, the choice of location for a first date is vital to the success of the entire evening. It depends largely on how well you know your date. If this is the first time that you will be going out, or you do not know your date particularly well, then you should choose a venue that is somewhat public. It will put you and your date at ease, and enable you to spend some time getting to know each other without feeling any pressure. If you’re looking for great location ideas for a first date and you don’t have a clue as to what you’re dates interests are, then what about an amusement park; everyone loves the fun of the fair and there are a number of entertaining things to do depending on how active and adventurous you and your date are. For more exciting and potentially romantic first date ideas, we’ve compiled our list of the top five:

Fabulous First date Ideas

1. Beach Party. If you live close to the ocean or a lake, then you could take your date to the beach. Weather permitting, a picnic on the beach is one of the most romantic and fun ways of getting to know someone, without the formality of a restaurant or the darkened halls of a movie theatre. Choose snack type food that covers a variety of possible culinary tastes and foibles, and you could end off the meal with something extravagant like champagne and strawberries. Always a hit.

2. If you are going to go to a restaurant for your first date, then choose somewhere that you know. Don’t test a new restaurant on your first date. Exotic restaurants are also out of the question. ‘Sushi for beginners?’ – Not on a first date! Choose a restaurant that is mid priced, unless of course you want to really impress, in which case you can fly your date to Paris for a meal at the Ritz. Having a first date in a restaurant allows you to observe the other person in a social situation, and you’ll be able to find out more about your date. Choose a venue that does not have ear-splitting noise levels. Trying to make out what your date is saying is not the way to kindle the romantic flame.

3. Take to the Skies. Okay so you’re not in the ‘flight to Paris’ budget range. You can organise a first date that is unique and exciting without being death defying. A hot air balloon ride is one of the most romantic and original ideas for a first date. A hot air balloon rode at sunrise with a champagne breakfast afterwards. Guaranteed to knock your date’s socks off!

4. The Zoo. This is one of the most underrated date venues ever. The zoo makes a marvellous venue for a first date. There are restaurants; you’ll be outdoors getting some fresh air. You can be completely alone, and yet still in public. The background of animals and the modern layout of most zoos, makes a date at any zoo a great idea. If you want to make is more special then pack a picnic. Many zoos have quite suburb picnic facilities.

5. If you want to do something new on your first date then an excellent idea is to take a cooking class or some other type of class together. Not only will it give you a chance to get to know each other, but also if you like each other then one lesson can turn into two; can turn into… Just be sure that your date is physically able to manage something exotic such as yoga or dancing before you make a booking. Cooking and preparing food is incredibly sensual and there are numerous cookery schools that have social evenings where you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour at the end of the evening. It’s a fabulous icebreaker and first date idea.

The most important thing to remember when you are on a first date is to be yourself. There is no point in pretending to be something that you are not. Give your date the opportunity to get to know you and try to find out as much as possible about what interest them, not only will you get a good idea as to whether or not you share common interests, but it will also give you some great ideas for your second date.
